Efficient Computer signs an agreement with GlobalFoundries to build MRAM chips on the GF 22FDX process

Efficient Computer Corporation, a processor designer based in the United States, has partnered strategically with GlobalFoundries (GF) to construct its MRAM chips using the 22FDX process.

Efficient is already collaborating with specific clients to provide early access and sampling of the GF 22nm low-power silicon on insulator process, which is anticipated to implement MRAM memory by the summer of 2025.

The collaboration will integrate the Fabric processor architecture created by Efficient with GF's manufacturing capabilities in the United States and its worldwide presence for low-power edge devices. The integrated circuit is specifically engineered to provide efficient and versatile processing capabilities for various applications, including the Internet of Things, wearable and implanted health devices, space systems, and security and defense.

Efficient, a spin-out unit of Carnegie Mellon University in the United States, has secured more than $16 million in funding for the advancement of the Fabric processor. This processor is designed to efficiently use energy in a range of applications, such as advanced machine vision enabled by machine learning, continuous audio intelligence, and versatile sensory and signal intelligence. In addition, it enables developers to utilize their code, along with support for widely used embedded languages such as C and TFlite upon release. There is a plan to support many more languages within the first year. This will enable the creation of advanced intelligence applications that integrate artificial intelligence, machine learning, signal processing, data analytics, and other versatile data processing tasks.

Under the agreement with GF, the chip will incorporate magnetic MRAM memory and Adaptive Body Biasing (ABB) on SOI to achieve even reduced power usage.
