ARM SoC with GPU for space AI

Vorago Technologies has developed a radiation-hardened ARM processor with GPU for space AI applications.

www.eenewseurope.com/, Jul. 19, 2024 –

The Vorago VA7230 combines dual ARM Cortex-A72 cores running up to 1.5 GHz with L1 and shared 1 MB L2 caches (w/ ECC) as well as a NEON SIMD data engine and FPU for space AI applications running on an integrated 3D GPU. This provides up to 10.4 GFLOPS of performance and runs OpenCL 1.2, OpenGL ES 3.1 with 256KB on-chip SRAM.

There are two PCIe Gen 3.0 interfaces alongside two USB 3.0 and a 6Gbit/s SATA interface as well as a 4 port time sensitive network (TSN) and six Ethernet Interfaces up to 2.5Gbps. A security engine supports cryptographic offload, ARM TrustZone and secure boot to keep data safe.

The SoC is packaged in a 17 x 17mm 448 pin FC-PBGA and operates from -55 to +125C with a thermal monitoring unit. It is tested for Total Ionizing Dose (TID) of ≥30 krad(Si) @ 100 rad(Si)/sec (High Dose Rate) and over 100 krad(Si) @ 0.058 rad(Si)/sec (Low Dose Rate). Single-Event Latch Up (SEL) Immunity is over 60 (MeVcm2)/mg @ T=125°C.

The embedded GPU allows for power/performance optimization for space AI and machine learning workloads. The embedded TSN switchenables the implementation of deterministic, reliable networks.

The VA7230 is supported by a development board with the VA41630 daughter board and a Linux board support package (BSP).
