Alphawave Semi to form South Korean office
Alphawave Semi is planning to form an office in South Korea to strengthen IP sales to local fabless chip companies, TheElec has learned.

Currently, it has a few staff stationed in the country and its headquarters directly supports its fabless and design house customers here.
Alphawave Semi, a chipless firm offers IP and application specific integrated circuit design services to its customers. It actively collaborates with foundries, which manufacture these chips.
In IP, it is a TSMC IP Ecosystem Partner, a member of Samsung's IP Alliance and Intel's IP Alliance. In other words, it provides its IPs to all three major foundries.
Its design service is only provided to TSMC; it is a member of the Taiwanese chip giant's Value Chain Alliance or VCA.
VCA members are certified design house partners of TSMC; some of its other members include Asicland of South Korea and GUC.
Alphawave Semi provides its design house service to North America and Europe for TSMC.
Meanwhile, it signed a design house service contract with South Korean AI chip firm Sapeon worth 59.6 billion won in February. The pair are collaborating on the design of Sapeon's X430 chip, which will be made using TSMC's 5-nanometer (nm) node, chip-on-wafer-on-substrate packaging, and paired with a high-bandwidth memory (HBM).
