Strategic decision-making in the semiconductor sector: shifting from relative to absolute sustainability
Thibault Pirson - PhD - UCLouvain
Biography :
Thibault Pirson was born in Morges, Switzerland in 1996. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) in 2019 and 2023 respectively. In 2018, he was an exchange student at the University of Melbourne, Australia and did an internship in Switzerland at the Observatoire de Genève. His PhD focused on life cycle assessment (LCA) applied to electronics, and more specifically on LCA applied on Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices. In 2020, he co-founded and organized with other researchers the sustainable ICT (SICT) doctoral school, which questions the sustainability of ICT from inter- and transdisciplinary perspectives. Besides his academic research, he also took part in non-academic reports focusing on the environmental impacts of ICT. After a year of travelling around Europe, he began a post-doc position at UCLouvain (ICTEAM/ECS) in 2024, dedicated to the application of absolute sustainability to the semiconductor sub-sector. |
